Date: June 19, 2023
In an effort to bolster the quality and standard of education in agri-food processing and packaging, the Gambia Tourism and Hospitality Institute (GTHI) recently organized a three-day validation workshop from June 12th to 14th. The event, held in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, brought together key stakeholders from various governmental and non-governmental organizations in the agri-food sector.
The workshop focused on the validation of a comprehensive curriculum that encompassed three main areas: fruits and vegetables, cereals, and dairy products. The aim was to ensure that the curriculum offered by experts from Senegal aligned with the industry's requirements, encompassed relevant knowledge and skills, and prepared students for successful careers in agri-food processing and packaging.
The event was attended by high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, who provided valuable insights and expertise to shape the curriculum. Representatives from the Food Safety and Quality Authority of The Gambia (FSQA), National Nutrition Agency (NaNA), the Gambia Youth Chamber of Commerce (GYCC), and the Gambia Tourism Board (GTB) were also present, reflecting the collaborative nature of the workshop.
Throughout the three-day workshop, participants engaged in constructive discussions, sharing their experiences, and providing feedback on the proposed curriculum. Their valuable input, coupled with expert guidance from industry professionals, ensured the curriculum's relevance and alignment with industry standards.
By incorporating the expertise and perspectives of key stakeholders, the workshop sought to address current and emerging challenges in the agri-food processing and packaging sector. Participants explored innovative approaches to maximize the nutritional value, quality, and safety of processed foods, while also considering sustainable practices and environmental conservation.
The successful validation of the curriculum marks a significant milestone in the GTHI's commitment to providing quality education and training in the agri-food sector. The institute aims to equip future professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to thrive in an industry that plays a crucial role in Gambia's economy.
The Gambia Tourism and Hospitality Institute's dedication to fostering collaboration and innovation in the agri-food industry positions it as a leading educational institution in the country. With the validation of this curriculum, the institute takes a significant step forward in creating a skilled workforce that can drive sustainable and inclusive growth in Gambia's agri-food processing and packaging sector.
